Matt Kovalik, Founder

Matt Kovalik is the founder of Kovalik Digital and the company's sole editorial director. He is a licensed Minnesota electrician (MN Journeyworker License #AJ703617, verifiable through the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry licensing database), a member of Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1005, and currently employed by Metro Transit, the regional public transit agency for the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul.

Kovalik works as an electrician supporting bus and rail operations across the seven-county Twin Cities metro, coordinating with project managers, outside contractors, and other tradespeople to keep service moving.

He works as a software developer in parallel and builds and operates Kovalik Digital's properties himself. The company is based in the Twin Cities. NailThePrice's localized cost model was first calibrated against the local market before being extended to the other 288 cities the site now covers.

Kovalik has worked in the electrical trade since 2010. He completed his apprenticeship hours at Japs-Olson Company, where he handled troubleshooting and new equipment installation for commercial printing systems, and at Faith Technologies, working across most categories of commercial construction. Project experience includes residential homes, multifamily apartment buildings, and government facilities, including a Minnesota National Guard recruitment center.

Role

On Kovalik Digital's trades properties (NailThePrice and TradePrepped), the electrician's credential is the structural foundation of editorial authority. Cost estimates and licensing pages reflect a working tradesperson's understanding of how the work is actually priced, permitted, and credentialed in the field. The credential is verifiable. The byline is named. Readers can check both.

On PromoNight, the role is operator and editorial director rather than subject matter expert. The trades credential does not carry to professional sports promotional information. The editorial approach does: disclosed data sources, named editorial responsibility, no anonymous aggregation.

Editorial Philosophy

A working tradesperson uses the web differently than a content marketing team imagines they do. The information needs are specific. The time available is short. The cost of bad information is real. A homeowner pricing a project before a contractor visit, a tradesperson navigating a state's licensing process, a parent picking which game to take their kid to: each comes to the web with a defined question and benefits more from a complete answer than from a funnel.

Kovalik Digital builds for that reader. The properties answer the question, disclose the sources, and let the reader leave. Affiliate links, where they exist, sit at the natural next step in the reader's process, not in the middle of the answer.
